Kingston Flemings emerged as one of the most exciting young guards in college basketball before becoming a top-10 selection in the 2026 NBA Draft. The Houston point guard was selected 8th overall by the Atlanta Hawks, giving the Cougars another highly regarded first-round NBA prospect.
Flemings made a major impact during his freshman season at the University of Houston, helping the Cougars finish with a 30-7 record and reach the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. His performances earned him consensus Second-Team All-American recognition, making him the first freshman in Houston program history to receive All-America honors.
The young guard was also one of five finalists for the Bob Cousy Award, which is presented to the nation’s top collegiate point guard. He was a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 First Team and the All-Freshman Team after establishing himself as one of the conference’s most productive young players.
One of Flemings’ memorable performances came against Auburn, when he recorded 22 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and a blocked shot. He was subsequently recognized as the USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week as well as the Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Week.
Flemings also delivered in important moments during Houston’s season. Against Texas Tech, he scored nine points during the final two minutes and added five assists, three rebounds, and a blocked shot as the Cougars secured a 69-65 victory.
His rapid rise from Brennan High School in San Antonio to becoming the No. 8 overall pick made him one of the biggest success stories of the 2026 draft class. Now with the Atlanta Hawks, Flemings enters the NBA with the opportunity to develop his playmaking, scoring, and defensive abilities at the highest level.
