Nigerian Community Launches New Business and Discovery Directory

The Nigerian Community is a new directory-style service that allows both locals and those scattered across the globe to connect through business, culture, and discovery. Felix Ofiwe, one of the co-founders, describes it as an identity and discovery layer rather than a social network.

It allows people to search for their fellow Nigerians and discover Nigerian-run businesses in their area. It also allows users to list their businesses, services, and more. Ofiwe was inspired to create this platform after identifying the need for people to connect with each other more easily, both within and outside the country.

The new website has been launched this month and is already attracting attention from many locals and Nigerians abroad. It allows users to search for fellow Nigerians in their local area, whether they are new to the area or just need assistance.

It allows users to find nearby Nigerian-owned bars, restaurants, lawyers, barbers, event planners, realtors, and more. The directory has already been built for the major local cities and is expanding to cities across Europe, North America, and Asia.

Connecting Nigerians Through Business and Culture

Some early adopters are listing their business services and products for the first time, rather than relying on WhatsApp and Instagram status to promote what they offer. It is available on both desktop and mobile, without requiring users to go through a complicated registration process.

Ofiwe hopes it will serve as a practical self-discovery tool for locals and those living abroad while also creating a sense of belonging. He notes that it should be easy for newcomers to discover Nigerian-run businesses in their area without having to do extensive research.

It should also help locals to identify potential customers who share their cultural background. It also allows users to connect through events and share information that is difficult to discover on mainstream social media.

The platform is therefore positioning itself around something more specific than another social network: making it easier for Nigerians to find people, businesses, services and useful local connections wherever they are.
