Patrick Asare Biography: Ghanaian $100M Scam Fugitive Known as Borgar
Patrick Kwame Asare, better known on the streets as “Borgar,” is a Ghanaian national born around 1986 who rose to become a high-ranking player in a sophisticated international fraud network based in Ghana. The plain truth is that this man and his crew allegedly ran one of the bigger online scam operations targeting Americans.
From about 2016 all the way into 2023, the group allegedly mixed romance scams with Business Email Compromise attacks. They created fake online identities, built emotional connections with lonely older victims, and convinced them to send large sums of money. At the same time, they spoofed company emails and tricked businesses into wiring funds straight into accounts they controlled.
Make we look at the facts. Prosecutors say the whole operation pulled in more than one hundred million dollars. After the money landed, it was laundered and moved back to West Africa, where senior figures known as “chairmen” directed the flow.
Asare is charged alongside three other Ghanaians, Isaac Oduro Boateng (Kofi Boat), Inusah Ahmed (Pascal), and Derrick Van Yeboah (Van) with wire fraud conspiracy, wire fraud, money laundering conspiracy, conspiracy to receive stolen money, and receipt of stolen money. The first three counts each carry up to twenty years.
In August 2025, the other three were extradited from Ghana to New York and presented in federal court. Asare remains at large. Ghanaian authorities had issued an arrest warrant for him earlier that year at the request of U.S. officials, yet he slipped the net.
As it stands right now, the FBI and the Southern District of New York are still hunting him, and the international manhunt continues. For Asare, the case remains far from over, with his whereabouts still unknown and U.S. authorities continuing efforts to bring him before a federal court. His alleged role in an operation said to have moved more than $100 million has placed him at the centre of an international fraud case that continues to unfold.
